About GarageToolHQ
GarageToolHQ helps people choose garage equipment: air compressors and air tools, car lifts, floor jacks and jack stands, engine hoists and shop equipment, cordless tools, detailing gear, diagnostic tools, tool storage and garage upgrades like heaters, lighting and flooring.
We write for four kinds of reader. Weekend DIY mechanics doing oil changes, brakes and tire swaps on daily drivers and trucks. Enthusiasts and project-car builders working on restorations, track cars and classics, who shop for lifts, engine hoists and big compressors. Detailing hobbyists and side-hustle detailers who need polishers, pressure washers, foam cannons and extractors. And homeowners turning a garage into a better workspace with storage, workbenches, heat and light.
Garage gear is sold on big numbers. A buyer needs different questions answered. Is that CFM figure at 90 PSI or at 40 PSI? Will this lift fit under my ceiling with my truck on it, and is my slab thick enough? What is the jack’s lowest saddle height, not just its top lift? Does the impact wrench’s breakaway torque mean anything for lug nuts? Is that heater vented, and what circuit does it need?
What we actually do
We compare equipment by the numbers that decide whether it fits the job: CFM at 90 PSI, tank size and voltage for compressors; capacity, rise, minimum ceiling and floor requirements for lifts; capacity and height range for jacks and stands; drive size and torque for impact tools; orbit and OPM for polishers; PSI and GPM for pressure washers; BTU, fuel and venting for heaters. We read the warranty terms and the certification statements, and we say plainly who each pick is for and who should skip it.
We are direct about the limits of this. We do not run our own trial shop, and we do not take physical measurements of products. Our How We Pick page explains exactly what our process involves and what it does not. Our free garage calculators show every formula they use, so you can check the math yourself.
What we will not do
- We do not invent specifications, measurements, results or awards. Every number on this site can be traced to a source.
- We do not repeat a manufacturer’s marketing claim as a confirmed fact. When a figure comes from a brand, we label it manufacturer rated.
- We do not quote a compressor’s CFM at 40 PSI as if it were the 90 PSI figure your tools need.
- We do not use fake urgency, countdown timers or “deal ends soon” language.
- We do not publish vehicle repair procedures. We review equipment.
- We do not write a roundup where every product is excellent. That is advertising with a different name.
How we are paid
GarageToolHQ earns affiliate commissions. When you buy through a link on this site, the retailer may pay us a percentage, at no additional cost to you. That is the business model, and it is why a short disclosure appears near the top of every article and in full on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Commissions do not decide rankings. No brand can pay to be included, to rank higher, or to have a criticism removed. Our Editorial Policy explains how we keep that line clear.
Who is behind GarageToolHQ
GarageToolHQ is written and edited by the GarageToolHQ Editorial team. The team sets the editorial standards, maintains the Shop Score method and its published weights, decides what gets published, and is responsible for accuracy, sourcing and safety content. We publish under the GarageToolHQ name rather than individual bylines.
