A diesel oil change is a good place for an extractor pump: pull the oil through the dipstick tube instead of crawling under the vehicle and fighting the drain plug. The best oil extractor pump for diesel is the one whose listing actually rates it for diesel fuel and oil, because two of the five pumps here explicitly say they are not for diesel. We compared all five on stated flow rate, power, diesel rating, duty cycle and warranty, using only what each listing publishes.

How we scored them

The Gear Score weighs diesel suitability, performance, build quality, value, safety and warranty. Three of the five are rated for diesel by their listings; the other two are included as oil change examples only. How we pick explains the weights.

Buying guide: best oil extractor pump for diesel

Diesel rated or not: read the listing, not the title

The single most important line in each listing is what it says about diesel. The OMT is a diesel transfer pump, compatible with diesel and kerosene, with a metal strainer to filter out impurities from diesel while pumping. The BLACKHORSE-RACING is suitable for diesel, biodiesel and kerosene only, and explicitly not for low flammability fuel such as gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas or alcohol. The Amarine Made is rated for diesel and states it cannot be used for gasoline or petrol, water or gearbox oil. The FAITIO states it is not for gasoline, diesel or water. The Siziviki states it is not compatible with gasoline, diesel, water or waste oil, and that misuse may cause failure. Three of the five are diesel rated; two are not, no matter what the search result title suggests.

Flow rate and what it means

The stated flow rates cover a wide range. The OMT states up to 12 GPM with a max suction length of 16.4 feet and a lift of up to 32 feet. The BLACKHORSE states up to 45L/min from a 175W 3500rpm motor, and also lifts up to 32 feet so you do not need to lift barrels and tanks. The Amarine Made states 0.8 to 1.0 liters per minute from its 12V 60W motor drawing 5A. The Siziviki states a 100W pure copper motor without a stated flow rate. The FAITIO states up to 0.5L/min of motor oil. The three slow ones are dipstick tube pumps for oil changes; the two fast ones are transfer pumps that move diesel itself between barrels and vehicles. Match the tool to the job: draining an engine sump is different work from emptying a 55-gallon drum.

Warm the oil first

Two listings give the same warm-up rule. The Amarine Made says to start the motor and warm the oil to 104 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, then shut the motor down before pumping. The Siziviki says to preheat the engine oil to 40 to 60 degrees Celsius, which is 104 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, before extracting viscous oil. Cold oil moves slowly and works the little pumps harder; warm oil flows and keeps the current draw down. The OMT and BLACKHORSE, being transfer pumps for diesel rather than sump oil, carry no warm-up instruction.

Duty cycle: the small pumps need breaks

The two dipstick pumps state limits. The Amarine Made should not be used for more than 30 minutes at a time, with a short break recommended after 10 to 20 minutes of continuous use to let the unit cool, and it notes the micro suction power is limited, so do not connect other extension tubes. The Siziviki must not run continuously for more than 15 minutes, with a 10-minute cooldown between operations to prevent overheating, and its listings adds overheating protection and leak prevention. Plan your oil change around the stated limits: a big diesel sump on a 0.5 to 1.0 liter per minute pump is a long, interrupted job.

Hoses, fittings and battery hookup

The included plumbing differs as much as the pumps. The OMT states a 16.4-foot hose length with a 0.75-inch inlet connection and a 0.31-inch outlet connection, threaded both ends, plus a mountable base. The Amarine Made includes a 1.5-meter outlet hose, a 1.2-meter inlet hose, 2 hose locks and 2 battery clamps, with an 8 by 7 by 4 inch body. The Siziviki includes 1 outlet hose at 10mm, 2 inlet hoses at 6mm and 8mm, and 3 adapters, with transparent hoses stated to let you monitor the fluid flow in real time. The FAITIO extracts through the dipstick tube with no stated hose set beyond the pump itself. All five run on 12V: the OMT and BLACKHORSE state 12V motors, the Amarine states 12V 60W, the FAITIO 12V 80W and the Siziviki 12V 100W. The BLACKHORSE states 12V battery connectors for cars, motorcycles, vans and quads; the Amarine describes red and black clips to the battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which of these pumps are actually rated for diesel?

Three. The OMT is a diesel transfer pump compatible with diesel and kerosene. The BLACKHORSE-RACING is suitable for diesel, biodiesel and kerosene only. The Amarine Made is rated for diesel. The FAITIO and the Siziviki both explicitly state they are not for diesel, so they are oil change examples, not diesel picks.

Can I use one of these for gasoline?

None of the five is for gasoline. The BLACKHORSE explicitly excludes gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas and alcohol. The Amarine cannot be used for gasoline or petrol. The FAITIO is not for gasoline, diesel or water. The Siziviki is not compatible with gasoline, diesel, water or waste oil. The OMT lists diesel and kerosene only.

How fast will they drain an oil change?

The Amarine Made states 0.8 to 1.0 liters per minute and the FAITIO states up to 0.5L/min, so a typical sump takes a while, and both state duty cycle limits. The OMT at up to 12 GPM and the BLACKHORSE at up to 45L/min move fluid far faster, but they are transfer pumps for diesel, not sump pumps.

Do any state a warranty?

The OMT states a 1 year warranty. The other four listings state no warranty term in the fields we reviewed.

Which is the most portable?

The FAITIO states 1.67 pounds at 8.07 x 7.28 x 3.54 inches. The Siziviki states 3.41 pounds at 6.77 x 5.51 x 7.87 inches. The OMT states 3.53 kg at 9.84 x 7.28 x 7.48 inches. The Amarine states 8 x 7 x 4 inches with a stated 1 pound in the bullets and 0.84 kg in the spec table.
