How we scored them

The Shop Score weighs coverage (which vehicles the listing states), functions (relearn, programming, diagnostics), value, safety and warranty. A factor the listing does not state scores zero, which is why three of the five score zero on warranty.

Product Shop Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5
XTOOL TP150 Scanner 9.6 32 21 21 0 3
MOCATEC EL-50448 9.5 29 20 20 0 3
VXDAS 2IN1 Relearn Tool 9.4 28 20 20 0 0
VXDAS EL50448 GM Tool 9.4 27 20 19 0 0
Arozk TPMS19 Ford Tool 9.3 26 19 19 0 0

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

How to choose the best tpms tool for home mechanics

Relearn vs programming

Four of the five tools relearn or activate existing sensors: the two VXDAS tools, the MOCATEC and the Arozk. Only the XTOOL TP150 programs sensors, and only XTOOL TS100 sensors at that; it cannot program other brands’ sensors. The Arozk listing states plainly that it cannot program at all, so a newly replaced sensor must be programmed first. If your job is registering sensors after a rotation, a relearn tool is enough; if you are fitting new blank sensors, you need the programmer.

Match the tool to your vehicles

The VXDAS EL50448 and the MOCATEC are GM-only; the MOCATEC listing warns it does not support Ford, Toyota, Nissan or Honda. The VXDAS 2IN1 covers GM and Ford with its switch. The Arozk covers Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda. The XTOOL states universal fit but only for programmed sensors or XTOOL sensors. Check the listing’s vehicle list against every car in the driveway before you buy.

Frequencies and sensor types

The two VXDAS tools and the XTOOL state 315/433 MHz sensors. The MOCATEC is optimized for OE/OEM sensors and states it is not for universal TPMS sensors. The Arozk states the sensor should be original to the car or a confirmed model. A tool that cannot talk to your sensor’s frequency is a paperweight, so confirm the frequency on the sensor or in the vehicle manual.

Batteries and power

The VXDAS 2IN1 and the MOCATEC both require a 9V battery that is not included, so buy one with the tool. The Arozk runs on a single CR2 battery. The XTOOL is battery powered with its own pack. The VXDAS EL50448 states no battery requirement, so check the listing or the manual when it arrives.

What the listings leave unclear

The VXDAS EL50448 states three different year ranges: 2006-2024 in the title, 2006-2023 in the bullets and 2006-2026 in the spec table. We trust the title, but confirm your model year on the listing’s compatibility list. The XTOOL update process needs a Windows PC and the TP200 software, which is worth knowing before you need an update. The Arozk is the thinnest listing of the five, with the fewest stated specs.

Garage safety

Use rated jack stands on solid ground, wear eye protection with power and air tools, keep fuel-burning equipment out of a closed garage, and follow the manual for every tool. Read our Safety Disclaimer.

Relearn time and the actual workflow

Relearn tools are fast once the car cooperates. The VXDAS EL50448 activates sensors within 1 to 2 minutes: put the vehicle in TPMS Learn Mode, hold the tool against the tire sidewall near the valve stem and press the Learn button. The VXDAS 2IN1 states activation within 1 minute with its power button. The MOCATEC lists five functions in one button: reset GM tire sensors, clear the TPMS warning light, make the dashboard display the tire pressure value, match the dashboard to new tire positions after a rotation, and check whether a sensor is good or bad. That last one is genuinely useful: if a sensor will not activate after several tries, the MOCATEC listing says the sensor is bad and must be replaced, not that the tool failed.

Sensor condition comes first

Every relearn-only listing here assumes a working sensor. The MOCATEC states that dead, low-power or damaged sensors cannot be activated and must be replaced with new ones first. The VXDAS EL50448 asks for original OEM sensors that are well programmed and fully charged or in good condition. The Arozk warns that if the sensor is not original to the car, you should confirm the sensor model before buying, and it cannot program a new sensor at all, it only activates. So before blaming the tool, check the sensor: a relearn tool registers sensors, it does not revive them.

What the XTOOL adds beyond relearn

The XTOOL TP150 is the only tool here that programs sensors, and only XTOOL TS100 sensors, in four ways: auto ID generation, manual ID input, copy ID by activation and copy ID by OBD. It relearns in four ways too: OBD, stationary, manual and copy relearn, and it reads live sensor data, sensor ID, pressure, temperature, battery status and frequency, plus reads and clears TPMS diagnostic codes. It has a 4-inch screen, its own battery pack, USB-C charging and EU, UK and US charger plugs with an OBD2 cable in the box. The spec table states a 2-year warranty, the longest here. If your household runs several cars with different sensor situations, that breadth is what the extra money buys.

Size, buttons and learning curve

These tools range from pocketable to tablet-like. The Arozk is 2.4 by 1.6 by 0.4 inches at 0.64 oz with one button, and its listing even gives the relearn sequence: left front, right front, right rear, left rear. The VXDAS EL50448 is 1.57 by 6.38 by 2.68 inches at 2.08 oz. The MOCATEC is 6 by 2.2 by 1.3 inches at 4.6 oz with one operation button and a video tutorial. The XTOOL is the largest at 3.54 by 1 by 7.2 inches with a 4-inch screen. For a home mechanic who will use the tool twice a year, one button and a clear sequence beat a feature list.

Garage Fit Check

  • The XTOOL is the largest at 3.54 by 1 by 7.2 in with a 4 in screen; the Arozk is the smallest at 2.4 by 1.6 by 0.4 in.
  • Buy a 9V battery for the VXDAS 2IN1 and the MOCATEC; neither includes one. The Arozk needs a CR2.
  • Only the XTOOL states a 2-year warranty and the MOCATEC 1 year; the other three state no warranty term.
  • Check the vehicle list before buying: GM-only tools will not help a Ford, and the Arozk only activates, never programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these tools work on any car?

Only if the listing says so. The VXDAS EL50448 and MOCATEC are GM-only, the VXDAS 2IN1 covers GM and Ford, the Arozk covers Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda, and the XTOOL states universal fit for programmed sensors or XTOOL sensors.

What is the difference between relearn and programming?

Relearn, or activation, registers an existing sensor to the car; the VXDAS tools, the MOCATEC and the Arozk do this. Programming writes a new sensor; only the XTOOL does that here, and only for XTOOL sensors.

Do I need new sensors too?

Maybe. The MOCATEC listing notes that dead or low sensors must be replaced before the tool can help, and the XTOOL works with programmed sensors or XTOOL TS100 sensors. A relearn tool cannot revive a dead sensor.

Which tools need a battery I must buy?

The VXDAS 2IN1 and the MOCATEC need a 9V battery that is not included. The Arozk needs a CR2. The XTOOL has its own battery pack.

How long does a relearn take?

The VXDAS EL50448 and the MOCATEC listings state 1 to 2 minutes per sensor, and the VXDAS 2IN1 states activation within 1 minute. That is the tool’s part; getting the car into learn mode is on you and the manual.
