How we scored them

The Shop Score weighs performance, build, value, safety and warranty. For shop lights, safety means shock protection or waterproof ratings stated on the listing; three of the five state them. Four listings state a warranty, from 365 days to 3 years. Our How We Pick page explains the weights.

Product Shop Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5
Barrina 6-pack shop light 9.7 32 22 22 4 3
Barrina 2-pack shop light 9.7 32 22 21 4 3

XLNYUUI 50W shop light 9.6 33 21 20 0 3

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

How to choose the best led lights for garage workbench

Brightness and color temperature

Brightness here runs 5500 lm to 14000 lm, with color temperatures from 5000K to 6500K. Daylight white around 5000K to 6000K suits detail work; higher lumens suit bigger benches. The ONLYLUX listing states no lumen figure, so treat its brightness as unclear. Our LED shop lights for mechanics guide compares more options.

Per-product, the figures are: Barrina 5500 lm at 5000K in both the 2-pack and 6-pack, XLNYUUI 7000 lm at 6500K, Linstaine 14000 lm at 6000K, and ONLYLUX at 6000K with no lumen figure stated. For close work like wiring or small parts, the 5000K to 6000K daylight range renders colors neutrally; the 6500K XLNYUUI runs cooler and bluer. If a listing states no lumens, as the ONLYLUX does not, you cannot compare its brightness to the others, so weigh its other features instead.

Wattage and what it tells you

Wattages here are 25W on the ONLYLUX, 40W on both Barrina packs, 50W on the XLNYUUI and 100W on the Linstaine. Watts measure power draw, not brightness: the 40W Barrina makes 5500 lm while the 100W Linstaine makes 14000 lm, so always pair watts with the lumen figure. The Barrina listing notes its 40W output replaces traditional fluorescent fixtures, and the Linstaine listing says its 100W chips save over 85 percent on energy costs versus older lighting. On a standard garage circuit, power draw is rarely the constraint; brightness per fixture is.

Lifespan, housing and heat

Only the XLNYUUI states a lifespan: up to 25,000 hours. The others state no hours figure, so treat longevity as unclear beyond the warranty terms. On build, the Barrina and XLNYUUI use aluminum housings the listings tie to heat dissipation, the ONLYLUX uses aluminum with a brushed finish, and the Linstaine uses a graphene and tempered glass body. Heat dissipation matters because LED output and life both suffer when chips run hot; the aluminum V-shape designs on the Barrina and XLNYUUI exist to spread that heat. The Barrina 6-pack also notes up to 240 LEDs per light in dual rows with a 270-degree beam angle, which spreads light wider than a flat tube.

Indoor, damp or outdoor

Four of the five are indoor lights: both Barrina packs and the XLNYUUI state indoor use, with the Barrina spec tables adding not water resistant. The Linstaine is the exception with an IP66 waterproof rating, and its listing names outdoor, yard and garden among the uses. One caveat straight from its bullets: the switches and plugs are not waterproof, so mount those parts where they stay dry. For a workbench inside a dry garage, any of the five works; for a damp basement, an open carport or outdoor task lighting, the Linstaine is the only stated choice.

Linkable runs

Three listings link in series up to 6 units: both Barrina listings and the XLNYUUI listing. Linking covers a long bench with one power drop. The Linstaine and ONLYLUX listings do not state linking, so plan one outlet per light.

Linking hardware differs: the Barrina 6-pack ships 6 power cords with on/off switches, 6 hardwire kits, 5 connecting cables and 6 small connectors, while the 2-pack includes a power cord and manual. The XLNYUUI 2-pack includes an on/off switch power cord and an extension cord, and also hardwires. If you plan a run of 6, count the included connectors against the run length before you buy.

Mounting and power

Mounting types here are ceiling, wall and plug-and-play with a 6 ft cord. The Linstaine listing adds an adjustable bracket for ceilings, walls or floors. Check the cord length against your outlet before you buy. Our LED garage lights for a 2 car garage guide covers whole-garage layouts.

The Linstaine 180-degree adjustable bracket is the most flexible mount here, covering ceiling, wall or floor placement, and its 6 ft power cord with inline switch gives placement flexibility without hardwiring. The Barrina lights offer both hardwiring and a power cord with on/off switch. The ONLYLUX is plug-and-play with no tools required, per its listing. If your bench has no nearby outlet, plan the cord route first: only the Linstaine states its cord length at 6 ft.

How many lights does a workbench need

Start from the bench, not the lumen total. A 4 ft light suits a standard 4 ft bench section: one Barrina or XLNYUUI 4-footer per section, linked in series where the listings allow it, covers a long bench from one power drop. The ONLYLUX 1.5 ft pair suits a small bench or the inside of a cabinet, where a 4-footer would overhang. The Linstaine is only 15.9 inches long but throws 14000 lm at a 120-degree beam angle, which its listing says covers up to 1200 sq ft; it suits a single intense work zone rather than even bench coverage. As a rule of thumb from these listings: one 4 ft light per 4 ft of bench, linked where supported, and a compact light for task spots.

Garage safety

Use rated jack stands on solid ground, wear eye protection with power and air tools, keep fuel-burning equipment out of a closed garage, and follow the manual for every tool. Read our Safety Disclaimer.

Garage Fit Check

  • Measure the bench: 4 ft lights suit a standard bench; the 1.5 ft pair suits a small one.
  • Count the outlets: linkable lights share one drop; the others need one each.
  • Check the cord: the Linstaine listing includes a 6 ft power cord with a switch.
  • Hardwiring needs a licensed electrician; use the plug-and-play cords otherwise.
