What the listings tell you
We read 14 foam cannon listings. Most gave a maximum pressure, from 1,500 to 4,000 PSI, but few gave the minimum flow or orifice size, which matter more for foam. Several are sold as kits with a short gun and nozzles.
Buying guide: foam cannons
Flow matters more than pressure
Foam needs water volume. Many cannons want 2.0 GPM or more; small electric washers make thin, runny foam unless the cannon has a smaller orifice. A 1.1 mm orifice is commonly used for electric washers, larger ones for gas. Compare GPM on our electric pressure washer guide.
Bottle and mouth
A 1 L or 32 to 34 oz bottle covers a car. Wide mouths fill without spills and resist tipping.
Fittings
Most use a 1/4 in quick connect. Brass or stainless fittings outlast plastic. If your gun has an M22 thread, you need an adapter.
Soap and dilution
Use a car wash soap made for foam cannons, typically 2 to 4 oz in the bottle topped with warm water, and adjust the top knob. Flush the cannon with clean water after use.
Keep electric pressure washers on a GFCI outlet, never point the wand at people or pets, wear eye protection with polishers and chemicals, and read the label before mixing any cleaning products. Read our Safety Disclaimer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a foam cannon work with an electric pressure washer?
Yes, if the washer has enough flow. Around 1.2 to 2.0 GPM works best with a 1.1 mm orifice; check the cannon’s stated minimum.
What is the difference between a foam cannon and a foam gun?
A foam cannon attaches to a pressure washer and makes thick foam. A foam gun attaches to a garden hose and makes thinner, wetter suds.
Why is my foam watery?
Usually too little flow, too much water in the mix, the wrong orifice or a soap not made for foaming. Turn the knob toward more soap and try a smaller orifice.
Do I still need to hand wash after foaming?
For a full clean, yes. Foam loosens dirt, a rinse removes much of it, and a two-bucket contact wash removes the rest.
What PSI is safe for car paint?
Keep the wand a safe distance from the paint and use a wide fan tip. Foam cannons spray soap at low force regardless of the washer’s rating.
